The History of NCMD:

On March 30, 2004, the first vision of NCMD was drafted, a logo was created, and the web address NCMedicalDevice.org was obtained. The idea of NCMD had been organically developing over the previous two years with inspiration from several factors, including (but not limited to) experiences from local university biomedical engineering students, industrial extension programs, engineers and executives from large and small device companies, and interested service providers. In parallel to this organic growth, economic research studies and local developers were uncovering the need for such an organization.

In June of 2004 the first NCMD steering committee was formed. On September 22, 2004, the committee hosted a Medical Device Industry Working Group Exploratory Meeting. Local thought leaders from device, manufacturing, and service companies, investment firms, and university representatives came together to discuss the validity of formalizing such an organization.

The positive response validated the call for a statewide trade association that addresses networking, training, and advocacy specific for the needs of medical device companies. From the meeting a larger group of steering committee members and advisors was formed, eventually leading to the first NCMD board of directors.
